{"id":4032,"date":"2018-05-02T19:09:37","date_gmt":"2018-05-02T19:09:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.paymentfacilitator.com\/?p=4032"},"modified":"2022-02-24T22:15:52","modified_gmt":"2022-02-24T22:15:52","slug":"square-boosts-omnichannel-capabilities-expands-globally-with-weebly-acquisition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/infinicept.com\/payment-facilitator\/archive\/square-boosts-omnichannel-capabilities-expands-globally-with-weebly-acquisition\/","title":{"rendered":"Square Boosts Omnichannel Capabilities, Expands Globally with Weebly Acquisition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Square <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/squareup.com\/about\/investors\/press\/6ee0a591-ff57-41e8-8c94-15bd429879ff\"><strong>announced<\/strong><\/a><strong> plans last week to acquire Weebly, a technology company that enables businesses to build web sites and online stores.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rick Oglesby, president of AZ Payments Group, described the acquisition as one that provides the company with not only expanded capabilities, but also an established user base. \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrior to this, Square\u2019s footprint has been almost entirely in the card-present arena, and its online capabilities have been more focused on helping its card-present merchants expand into new channels. Weebly gives Square a robust flow of card-not-present merchants and it also gives Square lots of e-commerce talent and technology assets,\u201d Oglesby told PaymentFacilitator.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s also a good vehicle for international expansion,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Square\u2019s announcement, 40% of Weebly\u2019s customers are outside the U.S. The company has \u201cmillions\u201d of customers and more than 625,000 subscribers, it said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSquare checked a lot of boxes with a single acquisition. This one will turn out well,\u201d Oglesby said.<\/p>\n<p>Square touted the acquisition as an effective way to serve its customers in all aspects of their businesses, both on- and offline. Together, the two companies offer payments, hardware, software, web hosting, and ecommerce and marketing tools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSquare and Weebly share a passion for empowering and celebrating entrepreneurs,\u201d Jack Dorsey, CEO of Square, said in the press release. \u201cSquare began its journey with in-person solutions while Weebly began its journey online. Since then, we\u2019ve both been building services to bridge these channels, and we can go even further and faster together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alyssa Henry, seller lead at Square described omnichannel commerce as the company\u2019s \u201ctop focus area in 2018.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom managing orders, appointments, and payments to building a website, running a business is complex, and entrepreneurs around the world want powerful and intuitive tools. Whether they\u2019re an artist, a winemaker, or a hairdresser, with Square and Weebly sellers will have one cohesive solution to build their business,\u201d she said in the release.<\/p>\n<p>Weebly is Square\u2019s second acquisition in only a month and <a href=\"https:\/\/squareup.com\/about\/investors\/press\/8cf001f6-7435-423e-be80-df36e20e36a7\">third so far this year<\/a>. But CFO Sarah Friar cautioned observers against reading too much into that pace according to TechCrunch, which <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2018\/04\/26\/square-acquires-weebly\/\">quoted her<\/a> as saying the company plans to continue its focus on \u201ca build path and a partner path.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Square is paying about $365 million for the company.
